a 366 photo challenge for 2012 - I have joined the friendly crowd at Elements Village on the web and have decided to start at 'A' and follow the 366 themes daily - I like the idea that I will need to take (or make) images that will stretch my skills and imagination - and if I throw in a few extras just for fun - forgive me - OK? Trying to stay focused for a whole year will be a challenge in itself - wish me luck and come and visit anytime...

February 21 - still cold ;)
Steve suggested I do a high contrast B&W on the half-dome image, so I did that and a couple of others that I had of the same area. My images are certainly not the quality of the master but I loved our time in Yosemite. Happy for any critiques or pointers to BW tutorials. In general I gave an adjustment layer in sift light to boost contrast, then a B&W adjustment layer and fiddled with the colours until it looked OK.

I think Steve had a wonderful idea! I'm glad you tried it out on some other images as well. I especially like the bottom image as there is a nice tonal range between lights and darks.
ReplyDeleteLoving the strong contrast on these black and white tones...really brings out the lines and textures!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a lot lately about B&W conversions. To me, you've nailed it in terms of contrast and lighting, especially with the top three images.
ReplyDeleteI always love how b&w always shows off the detail in the subject. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteI love you B&W version as well, they look so powerful now - amazing!
ReplyDeleteGreat work....the bottom one is definately a nod to Ansel Adams
ReplyDeleteThanks, I had to do some reading about him once you had mentioned his name - found out that he used a red filter to boost those skies. Love his images of Yosemite - he has a similar shot to the third one (above) but the trees are smaller :)
DeleteShots like these really make me wish that we had some mountains like these in the Uk.
ReplyDeleteDefinately AA inspired. Love the 3rd shot especially. Beautifully exposed for both the foreground and the mountain.
Well done.
