January 06 - Adolescence

adolescence reminds me of the feeling of strength and invincibility that this young skier portrays, but as I looked through some photos from last year I also came across one from Russia - teens on a school excursion showing the range of confidence and vulnerability that is part of this time of our lives.

  1. How do you get one photo to sit over another like that, is it the position on the page???
Oh by the way I love the action shot most and think the moodiness of the group shot good too, but am blown away by the presentation.

  2. P.S. the Redgum Bark Background is swell too!

  3. To me, it's that second photo that exemplifies the contradictions of adolescence.

  5. The carefree days of adolescence are depicted perfectly in the group image. Great stop action image of the teenage water skier.

  6. I love the difference between the collective and individual. So cheeky as a group, yet so focused when alone =)

  7. Thanks for your thoughts about the images - yes, the way they are presented is simply the choice on the blog page - one is to the right, one centred and I make my images much smaller so that they are easy to upload (I am on satellite internet and uploading big files gets expen$ive) The bark background is one of many photos of eucalypt bark - we do lots of bushwalking and I love the different ways they grow and shed their bark.
I was interested that the group image could have been taken in almost any 'western' country, I almost didn't say where it was from for that reason - and the young people are individuals even within the group...

  9. The group photo captures the theme, but that waterskiing picture is outstanding; tack sharp!
