a 366 photo challenge for 2012 - I have joined the friendly crowd at Elements Village on the web and have decided to start at 'A' and follow the 366 themes daily - I like the idea that I will need to take (or make) images that will stretch my skills and imagination - and if I throw in a few extras just for fun - forgive me - OK? Trying to stay focused for a whole year will be a challenge in itself - wish me luck and come and visit anytime...

April 16 - Faucets
had to dive into the holiday files to retrieve these images of beautiful old French faucets - nothing fancy, these have been pouring out water for the people of the villages for more than a century. The fresh water fountain in the centre of town had a comfortable bench nearby for travellers or locals to rest in the shade and the old lavoir (wash room) was still being used - a shirt hangs over the central beam above the wash basins. The water runs through each of the basins and is constantly replenished from the top.

I saw a horse trough in Tasmania that looked very similar to that top shot! Wish I could remember where!
ReplyDeleteLove the old world feeling to your faucet photos.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh you were almost at our place , this is Aups, I have similar photos but not as nicely done. You must have a million of these faucet and lavoire photos from your holiday, lovely shots!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn! I was trying to remember the name of the place. Wish I had 'known' you then and we could have dropped in - we were cycling through many of the little towns in the area. I adore France, though our next trip there will probably be to the north and west. There were lots of intriguing little lavoirs in the towns in Provence - are they used often? I could imagine summer hours rinsing the laundry would become fun, not tedious as it is when I am in a small laundry by myself...
DeleteLove the vintage look to the top photo and the more modern feel in the lower one. Did you taste the water or is that a no-no when traveling here too?
ReplyDeleteThe water is beautiful in the area - definitely nice for drinking - pure and sweet.
DeleteBEAutiful...love the textures surrounding these wonderful old faucets as well!
ReplyDeleteLovely shots....great texture, exposure and colours
ReplyDeleteEspecially like the tone and texture of the first image.....beautiful image with old world charm.
