March 19 - Domestic

Houses in the Rusian countryside are often decorated with beautiful colour and carved timber details. In this village, all the homes also had a well for water, which usually reflected the style of the home, with painted and carved timber surrounds, or the simpler 'log cabin' feel. It was great to get off the tourist route and go to local shops and walk around the area, though our (lack of ) proficiency in the cyrillic language meant that conversations were very limited :)

  2. When did you have this adventure? BTW Russian is a language, Cyrillic is an alphabet.

    1. we were in Russia last summer - and of course you are right about the alphabet vs language, a slip of the keyboard ... cyrillic script is used for about 60 languages and it's called cyrillic because it is named after St Cyril - we learnt that in Russian language class ;)

  3. Beautiful photographs. Can't imagine having to go get water from the well in the winter.

  8. Always like to see the lesser known areas when traveling....like them all but particularly the bottom one...love seeing not only the well, but the interesting structures and clothesline in the background.

  10. Oh my goodness, I love these homes with their colors, decor, and the ambiance of a different culture and time. You've really captured the overall feel AND the details wonderfully. I feel as though I'm taking a world tour in the comfort of my home as I travel through your blog. Sorry I missed your photo posts in "real" time but they are eye candy to me today. Won't have time to comment on each but want to let you know I've enjoyed each one immensely. Wish Blogger had a like button...I'd really be pushing it!!!

    1. Thank you - I always feel blessed to be able to travel and see other places in the world - and the photos take me right back there so that I can even smell and taste the place. We also love travelling in our own country and as soon as retirement comes it's our plan to do even more. My bucket list is so long I will still be planning journeys when I am 100 :)
