March 3rd - Curvature

One of the walks we did while we were away included a sculpture display in the bushland - a fabulous idea and one you may see more of if the themes allow ;) These wings, suspended between the trees gave an impression of flight and a nice image for the 'curvature' theme for today. I couldn't decide - the limited palette of nature's greens and browns - or a B&W? I have been trying to take photos that will translate well to B&W and am working on the technique to get a good result. At present I am using layers to control the intensity of each colour and wishing I had a great printer nearby so that I could test the results rather than just on the screen of my laptop, which has its limitations! I have a large screen in the study which I need to get back to ASAP.

March 2nd - Crowded

Still trying to catch-up on the daily themes! Crowded is an easy one though - these little wagtail babies found their accommodation became more crowded every day - in the end they had no option but to move out!

March 1st - Crooked

A crooked little hut at Cattle Creek, built in one day by timber cutters 99 years ago with saplings and cast-off sheets of corrugated iron from other constructions. They used this hut and others nearby as shelter when they were in the forest working for weeks at a time. I thought that this image needed B&W as a small tribute to its heritage...

February 29 - Critters

Critters is a pretty strange word to us in Aus - but I looked it up and seems it can be anything from farm animals such as cows and goats to crawly little beasties. So I am putting up a couple of images of critters from our farm (they are the inquisitive black Angus boys who seem to hang out in groups of three) and the other is a gorgeous goat at a friend's property, with the sun just catching his yellow eye - giving him a look as though he would gladly butt me, given half a chance...

February 28 - Costume

This trumpeter wears a previous century's costume to play a part in a re-enactment of history in Florence, whereas for the Swiss Guard at the Vatican in the second image, Renaissance costuming is their 21st century work-wear.

February 27 - Cool

I can't wait for the cool weather - Autumn is a fabulous time of year here, when the days are warm and sunny and the nights are cool. Where we live, we get frosts in winter and this one from last year made for some cool images as well, with the orange of the lichen on the old wooden rails giving a bit of warmth to the image - a nice contrast to the frosty top. I desaturated the yellowy grass in the background to focus attention on the timber and boosted the sharpness with a high pass filter.

February 26 - Contrast

We have been away for a week, so it's catch-up time! Contrast is the word of the day and I love the contrast of this red lock on the black chain-link fence. It is popular in Europe for newlyweds to put a lock onto a prominent fence and throw away the key - Makes me wonder - if it isn't 'forever' do they come back and cut the lock away?? I have noticed a couple of these in Australia recently - maybe the practise is starting here as well...
